Position Summary

The Coffee Shop barista supports the delivery of exceptional customer experiences by providing outstanding customer experiences while serving specialty coffee and food. Performing his or her duties in an efficient and effective manner, the barista maintains the highest standards and levels of quality and excellence. A proactive self-starter, this individual takes full ownership of all Coffee Shop barista duties while promoting and supporting the mission of Insight for Living (IFL). As a member of the Operations Department, the Coffee Shop barista has a responsibility to bear the fruit of the Spirit and to accurately express the ministry’s beliefs and values in all interactions with customers, staff members, and vendors. 

Overview

Since 1979, Insight for Living Ministries has been committed to excellence in teaching the study and application of God’s Word. Chuck Swindoll and his wife, Cynthia, began the ministry by broadcasting Chuck’s Bible-teaching program, Insight for Living, on 18 stations. Today, the program airs on over 2,000 stations, can be streamed through various online channels, and can be heard in 70 countries and eight languages. We also produce quality Bible-study resources, have a dynamic online presence, provide pastoral counseling, and actively walk alongside listeners through life’s challenges. As a ministry, we’re committed to Vision 195 , our strategic mission to pursue Jesus’ Great Commission by extending God’s grace and making disciples in all 195 countries and their 6,875 heart languages.

In addition to our international headquarters in Frisco, TX, we currently have ministry offices in 10 countries, where our pastors translate resources, train church leaders to use Chuck’s Searching the Scriptures Bible-study methods, serve their communities, and pursue Vision 195 in their languages. Core Job Functions

  Coffee Preparation and Delivery (25%)

• Prepares and delivers drinks to order and according to specialty coffee standards
• Encourages a healthy, productive, and customer-oriented environment
• Upholds Coffee Shop best practices related to customer experiences, daily operations, health and safety, inventory, and merchandising
• Maintains effective documentation of all relevant items related to daily operations, inventory, expiration dates, waste, maintenance/repair, etc.
• Receives and checks inventory upon delivery as requested
• Stocks all products each day and informs lead barista and/or Coffee Shop manager of inventory needs

  Customer Interactions (20%)

• Welcomes and acknowledges all customers cheerfully
• Regulates and expresses emotions appropriately (Ephesians 4:26)
• Interacts with customers in a healthy, friendly, engaging, and professional manner (Romans 12:18)
• Builds rapport quickly and easily through meaningful connections and showing interest
• Carefully listens for accurate understanding of others’ needs (James 1:19)

Cleaning (20%)

• Demonstrates commitment and willingness to serve customers and staff by cleaning (John 13:14–15)
• Follows all cleaning schedules and checklists
• Cleans all items thoroughly and meticulously
• Uses appropriate cleaning tools and materials
• Upholds highest standards of cleanliness at all times
• Communicates professionally

Position Specifications

  Job Qualifications

• Some college education desired but not required
• 1 or more years’ prior barista experience desired
• Strong customer service orientation and demeanor
• Ability to relate and work well with people at all levels
• Ability to balance building relationships with completing tasks
• Meticulous thoroughness in completing all responsibilities within specified timelines
• Strong work ethic with an ability to take direction and a drive to excel
• Ability to communicate clearly, succinctly, and effectively

The barista position is part-time; all positions will include some weekend and holiday work. Specific scheduling for this open position includes Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday afternoon/evening availability.
