Position Overview

Seeking a Criminal Records Research Specialist to support statutory responsibilities related to sex and violent offender registration .

The position will research and collect court and criminal-history documentation, analyze and interpret legal records, communicate with law-enforcement agencies, and accurately enter information into designated government data systems.

The ideal candidate has experience with data collection, research, criminal justice records, court documents, legal terminology, or related government/legal environments and can work accurately with sensitive information.

Key Responsibilities

• Research and collect court documents and criminal-history records .
• Review, analyze, and interpret information contained in legal and court documents.
• Communicate with local and state law-enforcement agencies to obtain or clarify information.
• Enter and maintain data in designated web portals and data systems.
• Research and process information related to criminal offenses and offender records.
• Maintain accuracy and confidentiality when handling sensitive criminal-justice information.
• Manage multiple assignments while meeting established deadlines.
• Apply applicable policies, procedures, and criminal-justice knowledge when processing records.
• Perform additional related duties as assigned by division staff.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; equivalent work experience may be considered.
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications .
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to maintain discretion when handling confidential and sensitive information .
• Ability to establish cooperative working relationships with internal staff and external agencies.
• Ability to research, collect, process, and accurately enter data.
• Ability to review detailed information involving criminal offenses and sensitive subject matter.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining accuracy and adherence to established procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree.
• Research experience.
• Experience with criminal-history records .
• Familiarity with:
  • Triple I / III records
  • Probable-cause affidavits
  • Conviction and sentencing documents
  • Presentence investigation reports
  • Court orders
• Knowledge of the Indiana Criminal Code .
• Knowledge of the Correction and criminal-justice system.
• Experience working with courts, corrections, law enforcement, legal records, or government agencies.
